The NFL Superbowl is around the corner -- are you curious what the Eagles odds to win Super Bowl 2018 look like?
Super Bowl 52
Date: February 4, 2018
Time: 6:30 p.m. ET.
Place: U.S. Bank Stadium, MN
The matchup this year is the New England Patriots vs. the Philadelphia Eagles. The last time the Eagles made it to the Superbowl was in 2005 when they lost 24 to 21 against the Patriots. This rematch has been a long time coming. In fact, the last time these two teams squared off was on December 6th, 2017 which ended in a 35 to 28 win in favor of the Eagles. At the time, the Eagles record was 5 and 7 while the Patriots were 10 and 2, making it quite an upset.
There's no doubting the colorful history of these two teams. The bigger concern is the pure dominance that the New England Patriots have shown. They finished the 2017-2018 season as 1st in the AFC East division with a 13 and 3 record. This record is the same as the Eagles, which topped the NFC East division. Expectations are high surrounding the matchup between these two conference champions.
So, who has the best chance of coming out the winner? The Patriots won last year's Superbowl 34 to 28 versus the Falcons. That match was interesting -- with the Patriots down 28 to 9, a 19 point comeback in the 4th pushed it into overtime where they ultimately conquered with a further 6 to 0 run. The Patriots are no strangers to the Superbowl, having won it in 2015 as well -- with a 28 to 24 score against the Seattle Seahawks. The Patriots were down 10 after the third before nailing a 14 and 0 run to finish regulation time with a 4 point lead.
It's true, the Patriots have been known to step up even when things start out rough. Their 2012 Superbowl performance versus the New York Giants (a 21 to 17 loss) is a bit further into history now. For the average football fan, Tom Brady's Patriots team is nearly invincible.
Don't count the Eagles out yet, though!
The Eagles had a well-deserved NFL Conference Champion game win against the Vikings. It was a total blowout, finishing with a 38 to 7 score in favor of the Eagles. The Vikings entered the playoffs with the same 13 and 3 record as both the Eagles and Patriots. This game truly showcased the sheer dominance that today's Eagles are capable of performing out on the football field. The most exhilarating part of their conference game win -- they absolutely destroyed the team with the BEST defense in the league!
While the favorite choice might seem to be the Patriots, are the Eagles really underdogs? Many odds estimates suggest the Patriots are roughly a five-point favorite. Only time will tell how the 2018 Superbowl will actually play out. One of the biggest variables odds crunchers are waiting to figure out is whether Rob Gronkowski (of the New England Patriots) will be cleared to play and if he'll be healthy on the field. Grownkowski took a hard hit and ended up with a head injury in the AFC Championship game. Without him, the Patriots have even less in the tank.
It's a situational football game. Philadelphia Eagles need to put up some points, but more importantly play defense -- force more field goals than touchdowns. It's certainly a close call and the game is expected to finish with a pretty close score based on all indicators.
